Our Statement of Faith
At Caledonia Congregational Church we’re all about Jesus. Jesus Christ is the totally unique Son of God. Even though Jesus was God, He became a human being, was born of a virgin in a lowly stable, and lived a life without sin. Jesus died on the cross taking the punishment of sin that we deserved. Jesus was buried, but death could not hold this Innocent Man. Jesus was raised from the dead. After 40 days Jesus ascended into heaven where He now sits at the right hand of God.
Wow, that’s a lot to believe! Why do we believe it? Because those of us who are committed to the ministry at Caledonia Congregational Church have experienced the love of God being poured into our hearts by the Spirit of God. He came to dwell in our hearts when we turned from our own ways and accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. It was the Holy Spirit who brought us to faith in Christ and through His empowering He equips us to live lives of humble and fruitful service to God.
Because God is at work in our hearts, we at Caledonia Congregational Church have also come to love His book, the Holy Bible. We believe that holy men under the inspiration of God were moved to write its words and that it truly is the Word of God, authoritative and infallible in all that it teaches. It is our guide and inspiration for living a life of faith in Jesus Christ.
At Caledonia Congregational Church we believe that the Bible teaches that there is one God who is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and that He exists in three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father sent the Son, Jesus, to be the Saviour of the world. After Jesus’ ascension the Holy Spirit was sent to establish the church and lead her in her mission to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to all the peoples of the world, making disciples of all nations.
Though we still experience evil in this world, we believe that Christ has overcome the powers of darkness. We believe we can overcome evil in our own lives through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that Christ will one day soon return to this earth in power and great glory and then sin and evil will be totally eradicated. On that Day those who have put their faith in Christ will enter into a new heaven and a new earth. Those who have not trusted Christ will eternally perish.
